Girls school extension completed

We’re pleased to announce that the Krishna Devi Girls’ School extension has been completed and the girls are very happy! As well as more space for the girls to learn, it now includes a toilet block and accommodation for visitors. They’re also opening up the school for day pupils from the surrounding villages, so even more girls will have the opportunity to be educated, which is great news!

Our Chairman, Dr Naresh Sharma, along with his colleagues, recently visited the school during on of their surgical camps. They were really impressed with the new facilities and were treated as honourary guests by the girls.

World class dental education and training in remote rural India

Julien Bory, a Master Dental Technician, originally from France but now living in Canada, brings a team of dental technicians on a regular basis to the dental facility which has a fully functional dental laboratory. Built in 2008 under the guidance of Bill Sharpling, the laboratory now is able to provide crowns, dentures and other fixed and removable dental prosthesis. Most importantly, and maintaining the philosophy originally coined by Nanaji Deshmukh, local villagers are taken on and trained to a high standard by Julien Bory and his team. This provides the local community with the opportunity for learning a skill leading to self-reliance.

Helping Pooja walk again and changing lives

At the end of last year, our team of specialists carried out a number of operations in Chitrakoot to change the lives of those suffering. Towards the end of their time there, a young girl around 13 years of age was brought to the team. She was walking on her hands and feet as severe burns meant she was unable to straighten her legs. The team was heartbroken to see such a young life being wasted and they spent many hours performing surgery on Pooja’s legs so that she could walk. It took months of rehabilitation, but everyone was so pleased to see her walk normally again.

See Pooja’s transformation and others that this amazing team has helped in this video.

Video: Plastic Surgery Camp – December 2015

In December, a group of doctors, dentists, nurses and carers travelled to India to run the Chitrakoot Project Charity UK’s 4th successful plastic surgery camp. Over 70 cleft and burns procedures were performed over two weeks and the local children and adults who were treated were incredibly grateful for the opportunity to live a normal life – it means the world to them. A huge thank you to the GB Foundation who sponsored this trip, all the volunteers who paid their own expenses and of course to our many continued supporters.

We also launched the start of building work to extend the nearby Krishna Devi Girls’ School. It was a great pleasure to see that once this work is complete, these girls will have a much better environment to learn. We do still need support to complete the building work, so if you’d like to help – please send a donation through Paypal at the bottom of this page.
