Health care in India

India is a country of diverse culture, customs and economy. Although the big cities are full of high tech private hospitals providing state of the art health care in the Private sector, rural India is still without basic health facilities.

Poverty, illiteracy, poor living conditions...rural India

In rural India abject poverty, poor sanitation, malnutrition and a number of epidemic diseases are one of the main causes of early death in children and pregnant women. In the villages basic health care facilities are absent and many patients have to walk for miles to reach a primary health care centre. Although these primary health centres are run by the Government there is little or no funding to keep the centres running and provide any treatment for this poor section of the society.

There is an urgent need to provide basic health care and some advanced medical and surgical care for the population in the remote areas of India. The voluntary sector can therefore play a huge part in helping these people to live a normal self-reliant life.
